“Reiki principles are there to encourage us to embody the reiki energy throughout the day, every day. They speak to the importance of one day at a time”- Reiki master Nina Endrst

The 5 reiki principles, and how to incorporate them into your life:

1. Just for today, Do not worry!

If you’re worried about the capital W[wealth], then this reiki principle will help keep you on track as you begin to think about the future. “Our ego gets overwhelmed when we think of imaginary futures, then live in the present as if the imaginary future we imagined in our heads was real,” says Wozny. “It slows us down to the moment – until now, just this, just today.”

The practice of harnessing faith and breathing in the present moment, adds Endrst, can produce dramatic changes in our individual and collective consciousness

2. Just for today, do not be angry!

Experiencing anger is not necessarily a bad thing. It signals to us that someone or something has perhaps crossed a boundary. What actually matters is how we deal with that anger. “When something makes you viscerally angry, try to get to the root of it,” Endrst says. “Sit with it for a moment before acting. It’s not about suppressing emotions, but about accepting our anger and peeling back the layers to see what the trigger is. ”

3. Just for today, be humble

Our ego can be a bit ostentatious, especially when we’ve done something good, and this Reiki principle encourages us to take it down a notch. Wozny says: “[Our selves] love to  credit our accomplishments and be thanked for its gifts. “If you notice how your ego is boosted by compliments and how wonderful you are, allow yourself to bow  to your mind for once and just enjoy loving.”

4. Just for today, let’s be honest

Being your truest self is a wonderful and incredibly rewarding goal to achieve, but in reality, it can be  very difficult. “We grew up like animals trying to fit in and be accepted, when the most important thing was to respect and love each other,” says Wozny.

5. Just for today, be compassionate toward yourself

Wozny says: “Compassion is the antidote to judgment and anger. This reiki principle is an incentive to give yourself and others the slack and yield the benefit of the doubt when possible. However, practicing compassion is not always  easy  to do.
